Umphrey's sets this weekend speak for themselves. This was the 6th time or so I had seen UM in Nokia Theatre, and I must set they were the best back to back sets. The highlight of the guests included Matisyahu on Saturday.

My music experience in Austin continued last night at the 115 club with 2 sets from New Monsoon. The 115 club is small bar located near the downtown convention center in Austin. Even though it was a small crowd New Monsoon still put on a great show. It was great to see a band that can sell out the Fillmore in San Francisco in such a small venue. During the set break I had an opportunity to talk to some of the band members. The drummer was new and it was only his 4th show, but he did just fine. I first heard of the band in 2003 after they won the Jammy for Emerging Artist of the Year and saw them for the first time in 2005 at two Big Summer Classic shows in Schaumburg,IL. The band played a mix of rock, electronic, bluegrass to jam through the night. It was well worth the $12 and I might go back to see them again tonight.
Umphrey's managed again to rock my socks off. Too most people this does not mean anything, but here is the set list:
Set I: Janjunk@> In the Kitchen@ > Jazz Odyssey^ > Atmostarag > JaJunk, Hangover, No More Tears, All In Time
Set II: The Triple Wide ^^ > In the Kitchen^^, Prowler > Divisions > Padgett's Profile > Heard It Through the Grapevine > Padgett's Profile, Ales'd House > Divisions, Mulche's Odyssey*
Encore: Words
@ w/ Jake and Bayliss on acoustics for partial
^ w/ jaJake on percusssion and drums
^^ w/ Marc Brownstein (Disco Biscuits) on bass replacing Stasik
* w/ Moby Dick ending
This was the first accoustic In the Kithcen I have ever heard, and I enjoyed it thuroughly. The video on the right was performed at Earth Day last year. Even with Marc Brownstein on bass for In the Kitchen the highlight for me was the All in Time at the end of the first set. Overall, this was an amazing show, and made for a great Friday night. The Nokia Theartre in times square has great accoustics and is one of the better venue's in NY. However, I dont like about it is that it is extremely comercialized and it is in Times Square. Its like part of the Heiniken experience but in Times Square with all the bars covered in sponsorship. I found out that tickets to several of the events I wanted to go to are already sold out. Either way, this show really got me excited for summer.
