Roger Federer is one of the greatest things to happen to tennis. He may be the best player to ever play the game. Last night the number one player in the world took down American Andy Roddick in the quarter finals of the US Open. Federer owns Roddick and has beat him 13 of the last 14 times that they have played. Both players dawned complete black outfits, which clashed with the New York night sky. A Sydney Newspaper labeled Feds Darth Federer. While Feds is the most powerful and skilled player in the World I believe he has the power of the force. He is kind of like Anakin Skywalker in the Star Wars Episode III, but he will never turn to the dark side. His play is too good, and he means too much to tennis for him to be considered evil. If anything Roddick can be considered the bad one as he has been a constant disappointment to American Tennis Fans since his US Open victory in 2003. It would be nice for an American to reach tennis promenice again, but with Federer, Nadal and now the invasion of Serbian it may not be for awhile. Hopefully young players like Josh Isner and Donald Young will reach their potential. If anyone is going to beat Darth Federer this tournament it is going to be Djokovic.
Nadal Has been able to beat Federer 7 out of the 10 times the two have played. Nadal has been crowned the king of clay, with a world record 72 game winning streak. Nadal is only 20 years old but has been able to become the number 2 player in the world. This is an era of tennis like no other. Last year, the two players became the first in the open era to reach both the Wimbledon and French Open final in the same year. This rivalry has become intense and is about to take another step. ESPN has reported that the two will play on a customized court in Mallorca, Nadal's hometown. The court cost over $1.6M (USD) but will house one of the best exhibitions in tennis history. The court is going to be half grass, half clay. As mentioned above, the two players current hold the largest winning streaks on each style of court. Each surface provides for a different style of play. Nadal is 5-0 against Feds on Clay and Feds is 1-0 against Nadal on Grass. Both players have had divine comparisons and I hope this match will be televised and we will witness the real King of the Court. Read about the restuls of the match on ESPN.com
